The Inner Push

I’ve spoken with many folks recently who speak of now having a more prominent sense of that restless “inner push” to do what they are here to do in a more focused way. I’m sharing an excerpt from Rob Breszny below which feels helpful in getting to the center of this. Enjoy!
“Were it not for the leaping and twinkling of the soul,” said psychologist Carl Jung, “human beings would rot away in their greatest passion, idleness.” To that edgy observation I would add this corollary: One of the greatest and most secret forms of idleness comes from being endlessly busy at unimportant tasks. If you are way too wrapped up in doing a thousand little things that have nothing to do with your life’s primary mission, you are, in my opinion, profoundly idle. All the above is prelude for the climactic advice of this week’s horoscope, which goes as follows: Give everything you have to stimulate the leaping and twinkling of your soul.

All of creation loves you very much. Even now, people you know and people you don’t know are collaborating to make sure you have all you need to make your next smart move. But are you willing to start loving life back with an equal intensity? The adoration it offers you has not exactly been unrequited, but there is room for you to be more demonstrative. ~Rob Brezny

Waves of Change

Waves of Change
Greetings Dear Ones:

As we head into 2012, we are navigating in astrological energies of extreme friction.  It would be hard to miss the revolutionary winds currently howling across the planet. The Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street are just two examples of the mood of unrest expressing symbolically now as the Pluto/Uranus Square.  There will be seven exact squares of these two planets with the first occurring June 24, 2012, the last on March 16, 2015 and symbolizing a time of “Crisis in Action”.  Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld, squares off against Uranus, God of Earthquakes and Lightening Bolts.  The theme expressing here: ”breakdown for breakthrough”.   On a personal level, we are invited to face heal our own woundedness in order to experience liberation and breakthrough. This promises to be a wild ride, so please keep your seat belts securely fastened!

Let’s not forget another key player in this wave of change. Neptune will be making its re-entry into Pisces on February 2, 2012 and exiting again in January of 2026.  Historically, each time Neptune travels through the sign of Pisces there is some type of spiritual renaissance.  As we get to the political and ecological breaking point, perhaps we  begin to “hurt enough”  to see the way forward as an entirely new way of being. Neptune in Pisces is about recognizing our true oneness. The hunger for true connection is getting stronger now.  The other side of Neptune in Pisces involves the motivation to simply “check out”, escaping into other realities. Here there is the tendency to simply drink a few more beers and disappear in front of the television. A good Neptune question is, “What am I being called to release and dissolve? “  and “What specific spiritual practices would be most productive to utilize now?” This is a potent time to take a look at your astrological birth chart and, after determining which house Neptune is transiting through, ask yourself  how you can most productively navigate these waves of intense change.

Radical Acceptance

Radical Acceptance is an invitation to embrace ourselves with all our pain, fear and anxieties and to step lightly yet firmly on the path of understanding and compassion.” ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Wanted to share this short and sweet excerpt from the book “Radical Acceptance” by Tara Brach, Ph.D. It feels congruent with the spirit of these transformative times. This has been a time of personal, painful peeling; stripping away what isn’t me to reveal more of what is. It’s an “ouch and wow” time.

But wait….. I’m starting to feel a trace of shine in the strippings; there are deep new knowings. I am entertaining the possibility that I am not alone in this. Perhaps many of us are “readier now than ever” to learn to love and accept ourselves unconditionally. In my view, this is the root and the heart of our ability to extend that love out to a world so hungry for transparent authenticity and refreshingly wholehearted connections. What do you think?

Growing Up Unworthy

In their book, Stories of the Spirit, Jack Kornfield and Christina Feldman  tell this story:

“A family went out to a restaurant for dinner. When the waitress arrived, the parents gave their orders. Immediately their five-year-old daughter piped up with her own.  “I’ll have a hot dog, french fries and a coke.”

“Oh no you won’t, interjected the dad, and turning to the waitress he said, ‘She’ll have the meatloaf, mashed potatos, milk’.

Looking at the child with a smile, the waitress said, “So hon, what do you want on that hot dog?”

When she left the family sat stunned and silent.

A few moments later the little girl, eyes shining, said, “She thinks I’m real.”

Daring to Dream

I recently earned Level II certification in Steven Forrest’s Astrological Apprenticeship Program. While framing and hanging my certificate on the counseling room wall this afternoon, I noticed this quote which rings so true for me:  “Practicing the Astrology of Freedom, Choice and Imagination.”  Here’s to daring to dream and to the ongoing entertainment of delightful possibilities.

YOU as SOUP

Guess what?  You are a soup!  I can smell you, bubbling away over there! :  )

In fact, you actually originate from quite a unique combination of ingrediants. How much of each of these do you think you’ll be sprinkling or plopping into the pot as you create  your own special blend of taste sensations?

People do come along don’t they; hanging over your soup pot, curiously sniffing.  They may point a finger dangerously close to the brew and remark, “You know too much of that stuff can kill ya.  I’d add a little more of this if I were you.”, indicating in the general direction of their own savory creation. Some are well meaning. Others are mostly interested in your mixture being a perfect compliment to theirs. Seems easier that way.  But is it?

Remember.  You are the one who is living with the daily nutritive qualities of  your soup.  You have the freedom to create  your blend to your specifications.

So, about your soup ……..Is it heavy on the veggies? Perhaps a white sauce base, tasting a little bland at the moment? A little more garlic for some zest and detox?  Is it chock full of MEAT; a hardy stew? Or maybe it’s feeling thin and “held back” , needing some outside inspiration for increased flavor.

There are many ways to work with your soup.  Your astrological birth chart is one source you refer to for hints as to how to make the soup perfectly imperfect and tailor made to your specifications.  It will always be a delightful work in progress, meant to be cultivated and savored in its evolving and tasty awakening.

Joyful blessings to you as you tinker with the current ingrediants to make your soup a delcious taste sensation for your soul.

Namaste.

Those Pesky Little Voices

Have you listened to yourself lately? Would you allow your children to talk to each other like that?  Would you linger with a friend who addressed you in such a manner?

Those pesky little voices; that naggy inner critic. Okay.  Time to start the new year out right with a serious “sit down and talkin to”.

In recent work with clients (and myself)  enacting these various “voices” in our heads has been tremendously helpful. Here’s what we do:

First we identify two separate “little voices”, each with their own message.

Next, we conduct a virtual mediation session. The intention here is to not to shame them, but instead to get to the bottom of what they each need.

Compassionate Communication techniques (Marshall Rosenberg’s Non Violent Communication Strategies) teach the principle that every conflict is based in an unmet need.  Spending time exploring what each needs helps them “hear each other” and move from there to craft mutually beneficial solutions . Ideally, they can reach agreement.  It is simple and surprisingly effective!

Here’s a fleshed out example:

Taurus Sun:  I need a comfy recliner, my soft jammies, delicious chocolate to suck on and peace and quiet.

Scorpio Moon:  That sounds boring! I need intensity!!!

They continue to talk, listen/hear each other and eventually they craft an agreement. They decide to watch an intense, adventure movie in the comfy chair w/deliciously intense chocolate.  How cool is that??!!!!

Astrologers: Try this with the squares and oppositions in the charts you work with and let me know what you think.

Have fun with it. Laughing  “with” these various parts of us helps them feel much safer to come out and play…and they seem to be less afraid and more willing to move in a more mature, healthy and productive direction.

May you find more peace and compassion in 2011,  both in your interior and exterior conversations!

Much love,

Glenna

Success?

During the last week I’ve been thinking about how “successful” my life currently feels. The generic definition of success doesn’t necessarily apply here.  It is more of sudden, surprising sense of satisfaction.  I’m getting better and better at what I love to do and am beginning to bring it out in an expression of helpful service in the world. And to top it off …I’m just having so much fun with it!

Chris Brogan’s wonderful blog landed in my email box this morning. I resonate deeply with Chris’ definition of success. See what you think.

“Success, you see, isn’t a mansion and a yacht. Success is living the life you want and doing the work you’re best at doing with the people you know will help you reach the next level. Success means working on projects that you know will fulfill a deep felt passion within you, and yet, will feed your family. Success is knowing that you’ve built a thriving network of people who all work hard to grow each other’s capabilities. Success means finding a next angle and vectoring your efforts towards growing that out. Success means having the means and capability to make better decisions. Success means getting home in time for dinner. Success means leaving the house when I want to, and staying home with the kids when I want to, all while making a future for my family.”  ~Chris Brogan (Full blog is found at Chrisbrogan.com, “That Sense of Overnight Success”)

What does success mean to you?

Many blessings to you for a “successful”, love filled holiday,

Glenna

Computerized Birthchart Readings Now Available

Here’s a great idea for holiday gift giving or any time of year:

I’m pleased to announce that I am now offering a computerized birth chart analysis written by Steven Forrest.  The price is $25. This report is 15 pages in length and beautifully written with information specifically designed to help illuminate your individual soul’s unique  journey.  Steven is a brilliant astrologer as well as being a gifted writer.

“Steven brings the chart alive with colorful metaphor, humor and great humanity. He doesn’t shy away from pointing out the issues that block your development or the work that needs to be done, but he does it in a style that is nonthreatening. In this way he makes it safe for you to connect with the parts of yourself that you’ve disowned or repressed. That is the beginning of true healing. It’s also an art form.”  ~Virginia Bell from the Foreword to The Book of the Moon.

Here is a short sample excerpted from my personalized report:

Natal Report:  Glenna Bain

“To become the kind of person who can fulfill the outer purpose for which you were created, you must first turn your back on the attractions of status.  Why?  Because your destiny, if you choose to accept it, is to function as a kind of spiritual inspiration for your community,  and there’s no way to fill those shoes if you’re still attached to looking important.”

WOW! Is this ever true for me these days!

Soul Soup

This morning, inspired by and in honor of the upcoming Lunar Eclipse in Gemini/Sagittarus, I wrote this offering.

Hope you’ll enjoy it!  – GB

Heartfelt information  bubbles in me now, restless as a soup waiting to be served up.

The flavors simmer together; collecting, integrating and mingling in an authentic blend.

I stand here simply stirring, present and attentive, noticing inspiring aromas beginning to ascend.

Soon it will be ready. I’ll lower my face into the bowl, taking time to savour its unique deliciousness and vow to be fully present to that first delightful bite.

The soup itself issues a compelling invitation to those nearby. Care for a taste? Isn’t it delicious?

Much love,

Glenna

In Tune With The Moon

At first glance it seems ironic. Dec 21st, Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year and… how lovely! A full moon coming in to lighten the dark. But wait…there’s more! A gentle darkening with a return to light, otherwise known as a lunar eclipse, is also in the mix.

The Moon is preparing to move into Gemini; peacefully anticipating imminent eclipse by the Sun in Sagittarius. Mindful of cycles, the Moon is not perturbed in the least by the solar interference with its reflection of light. It remains calm, confident in the knowing it will soon be time, once again, for a reversal of roles. When the time is right, it will take its turn, lining up and slowly moving across its destined path, temporarily shadowing the Sun. There is a quiet knowing expressing here; an attunement to timing and cycles.

All is in divine order; there is infinite love.

Consider taking time now to gather resonant information back to your heart. Pause. Breathe.   Hold it there in the dark. Allow the slowly returning light to reveal what is forming there. Light into dark; dark into light, moving forward into a gentle, loving manifestation and continuing its peaceful cycle. May that quiet knowing begin to reside in you as well, more and more in tune and aligned with the continued unfolding of your highest good.

Much love,

Glenna
